Hi there! Welcome to my web page. My name is Socks. I’ve been a member of the family since August 2005. They adopted me from the Humane Society. I am so very happy to have gotten such a good home and I thank them everyday for it by giving them kisses. Mom looked at a few other cats, but was fond of me because of how friendly I was with them.
As you can see by my pictures, I am a beautiful black cat with white paws, hence the name Socks. I know I had another name before that, but I just can't remember what it was.
I might not be the First Cat of the White House, but I have become the First Cat of this house. I love attention and constantly rub and lick Mom for attention and also to show her what a nice kitty I am. If you let me, I will give you a kiss on your face and I am Mom’s sleeping companion. I’ll always announce myself by meowing softly before I jump into bed. Sometimes, Mom says this scares her.
I do have a bit of an attitude and will growl if I am upset. When I go to the vet, I will growl loudly. Mom says my bark is worse then my bite, but I really hate that place.
Mom says that she loves my markings and reminds me of kitty Ebony, whom she had for 20 years. She has always wanted a kitty named Socks.
I am a very curious cat and if a drawer is open I am there in it. Or a cupboard or any type of small opening. I just love to find new places to explore like the kitchen cupboards.
Something I have gotten in trouble for though is when I try to steal food off the table. I keep my eye out for anything that is left on the table that I can steal. I have been known to steal French fries, chicken nuggets, grilled cheese, and even a pork chop! I don't know what the big deal is, I have to eat and they can't expect me to eat that cat food all the time, do they? I love human food! In fact, one time Mom caught me on the counter digging into her Tuna she had sitting out for her sandwich. Man that was good! She even gave me some afterwards although she said I was very naughty! I am pretty much the dog of the family and will keep the floor clean of any crumbs or food that gets dropped my way.
When I lay I like to stretch out one paw, this gives me a sophisticated look and Mom thinks it is so cute! Take a look at this picture of me on the toilet. I love to join Mom and Kathryn every once in a while in the bathroom! Pardon my squint, but that flash sure is bright!
Mom gets very mad at me when I chase and pick on the other cats, especially Ginger. I would be happy if I was the only cat of the house, but my wish was never granted.
I used to go camping with the family, but in 2007 I was meowing at night and they decided I was happier at home. They aren’t sure why I started meowing when they took me, but I just didn’t enjoy camping that year. Maybe, I will try it again next year.
All cats have their flaws and mine is I am addicted to eating plants and brooms. That is right, I have a problem. Mom scolds me many times for eating her house plant and then throwing it up. They even got rid of he house plants because I loved to eat them. I have also tried to eat bristles off of brooms and toilet brushes. She says you would think I wouldn't do it since it makes me sick, but I just can't help myself. So they keep all brooms away from me. Which is a shame, because I sure do miss them! My favorite time of the year is when they put up the Christmas Tree, it is a delicacy for me and I will often eat and barf it up. They took me to the vet to ensure I was healthy, but it turns out I just have a sensitive stomach and anything can upset my tummy. They have all of us cats on Sensitive Stomach Science Diet to help me out.
Be sure to stop back soon and in the mean time check out Our Cats Photo Album where you can see some great pictures of me. Thanks for stopping by. MEOW!
