Born March 1, 1984 - Winter 1998.
Adopted September 1986

When my Mother's Aunt passed away, we adopted Puff whom was her Pomeranian. She was about 3 years old at the time. I often played with her when we went over. She lived with Opal (my mother's Aunt) in a house my parent's owned and rented. She adopted Puff from a Pet Store in Indiana. Puff's licensed name was Princess Puff XV. She was registered with the American Kennel Club.

When my Opal was alive Puff would travel everywhere with her. She usually sat on the very top of the seat around Opal's neck. It was quite the site. When we adopted her we purchased one of the small dog car seats that was basically just a box like pouch that fit over the seat to confine her to the seat.

Puff was your red Pomeranian mix and loved to play with stuffed animals in her young age. Her favorite toys where her smurf doll and carrot squeaker.

I always remember I told my parents we should adopt her as I would hate to see for someone else to take her. Therefore, she joined our home with Misty and Tinker. They all got along rather well.

She did a trick which we called pat-a-cake where she would lay on her back and put her paws together and move them up and down. It was a cute trick and looked somewhat like pat-a-cake.

She usually slept on her back which looked rather odd. You would think it was just a big furball of hair on the floor. Sometimes she even barked and jumped in her sleep. My mom said at one time she thought something was wrong with her. But she must have been dreaming.

Puff loved our 2 cockatiels that we had. Pretty boy would often whistle at her and the birds loved to be up close with her. Our love bird however, had a strange hatred for her. It was the oddest thing.

If we let him out of his cage and he saw Puff he would head straight for her and nip at her hair. It was really quite silly and he even make efforts to purposely fly at her and land on her. She couldn't understand what his problem was and often ran from him. Pretty bad a dog scared of a little bird. We often said if Peaches our love bird didn't leave him alone he might now be around for long, but she was more or less scared of him.

In her late years she developed diabetes and my Mother had to give her insulin shots twice a day. I remember she wasn't fond of this and often yelped when my Mom gave her the shot. She said one time Puff yelped when she went to do and the needle went flying across the room.puff4

Due to the diabetes, she became completely blind, but managed quite well. As long as you didn't change her surroundings a lot and helped her in and out of the house, she did very well. We had to keep up a gate so she wouldn't miss a step and fall. There was one time, she fell down the basement steps, which was just awful, but she was okay. We were always worried about her falling because of her shorter legs.

She also got shaved in her later years in order to try and keep her cool in the summer months. Mom often trimmed her and gave her baths in the large sink in the basement. We often joked about through her in the dryer in order to fluff her up. She wasn't fond of baths in the least and looked like a wet mop when she got them.

Unfortunately, she became increasingly worse and lost almost all of her ability to get around and function. She was messing in the house and having accidents all the time. She had a good life though and was put to sleep in late Winter of 1998.
