Born June 29, 1976 - 1993 Adopted September 1979
When I think back to my childhood, my very first friend and pet comes to mind. Misty Angel was our miniature poodle whom I shared most of my childhood with. We adopted her when I was 3 years old from a man that was giving her away. The picture to the left was taken shortly after we adopted her. Misty's birthday was very close to mine, only 4 days apart, so that made her extra special. We always celebrated our birthdays together.
She was my very first dog and in turn became my best friend. As I look back through my photos I realized that a great deal of photos of me included Misty. She loved posing for photos and did everything with me. To us, she wasn't just a dog, she was part of the family. She knew it and rarely never complained about being included in a photo.
She wasn't no ordinary dog. She was so smart. Often as a child I didn't like to sleep alone. Misty was the best and stayed with me until I fell asleep. Mom always said that somehow she knew and would sit in bed with me until I fell asleep. This often provided me much comfort.
I even had her trained to accompany me to the bathroom. If I went into the bathroom here came Misty. I don't think I really trained her, but she just started doing that with me and it became a regular thing.
She loved opening her own Christmas gifts and was always interested to see what she received. She loved chewing on the bones and loved the milk bones we would give her daily.
Misty usually accompanied us when we went over to Grandma's house because she had a poodle, Boomer, that got along well with Misty.
We always said she could run as fast as lightening. In our big yard, she took off and just loved to run around in the open yard.
We took her to the groomers often and she always got the cute poodle haircuts with a bow in her hair. I often made fun of her and she often wound up taking the bow off herself.
I can remember many times when we dressed her up. She was such a good sport about it and we have many pictures of her by the Christmas Tree.
She had quite a bit of patience, as you can see we often dressed her up, which I don't think she enjoyed that much! But she tolerated it because of the good sport she was.
She was a very playful dog and would hit balloons with her nose. It was very entertaining to see her play. As she was quite good at hitting the balloons with her nose and keeping them in the air.
When I adopted Ebony in January 1984, we were a little concerned how Misty would do with a cat, but she did very well. She was the usual dog and often chased Ebony around. However, Ebony didn't really care about it and it gave her some exercise. But they usually got along really well and even shared some pictures together.
Misty was my best friend until the end. I will never forget what a great companion she was to me as a child. Growing up wouldn't have been the same without her and she will always hold a special place in my memories and heart.
She became very sick and was put to sleep sometime in 1993. She had a good life and lived to be approximately 17 years old.
